Welcome to our school

Friars is a vibrant multi-cultural one form entry primary school located in the Borough and Bankside ward of the London Borough of Southwark. The school welcomes 26 children to the nursery class each year and 30 children to our other year groups. We offer a Breakfast Club from 7.45 am and an After School Club that is open until 5.45pm.

We have a long history of high achievement and enrichment and we aim to make every child’s time with us as rewarding as possible allowing them to be the best they can be. Inclusion is at the heart of our ethos and values, and our aim is to meet the needs of all our pupils whatever their starting point. Our creative curriculum builds on our children’s interests and involves them in shaping their own learning. Specialist teaching in music, dance and PE enhance our high-quality classroom provision.

Located a stone’s throw away from London’s historic Southbank, the children at Friars benefit from a wide range of enrichment experiences as part of our curriculum, whether that be visiting the Globe Theatre, the Tate Modern or Southwark Playhouse.

As part of our extended curriculum, children can choose from a range of activities which will add depth and richness to their learning. Our after-school provision is well attended and includes a rolling programme of computing, homework, art, sports, science, chess, dance, recorder and pottery clubs.

We are very lucky to be a partner school with the Unicorn Theatre. This has allowed our staff to take part in a range of professional development opportunities and has helped embed a creative approach across many areas of our curriculum. Children also have the opportunity to take part in workshops and attend live performances helping them develop a range of skills and enhancing their learning experiences.

We are committed to promoting and safeguarding the welfare of all children. We are fortunate to have a strong and proactive pastoral team who offer support to children and their families, removing barriers to learning and improving life opportunities.

At Friars we strongly believe that an effective partnership between parents and the school yields the best results for our children. By working together to promote high standards of learning, behaviour and attitudes, we will empower every child to achieve their best.
